What program do I need to prepare files?

There are many publishing programs available today, however there are only a few that a truly suited for preparing files properly for printing to a high quality output device. If you are going to be creating files regularly, making an investment in a good page layout program would be wise. If however you are doing projects infrequently we will try to help you to the best of our ability. The suite we prefer to use for our designs is an Adobe product named "InDesign".

What guidelines should I follow ?

• Please include all placed images, graphics and fonts.

• Provide a hard copy or pdf proof of document for us to reference.

We check for general accuracy. We do not proof read electronic files word for word to insure complete accuracy. Statesville Printers Inc. will not be responsible for any errors when a hard copy is not provided.

• Be sure color breaks, perfs, scores, folds etc. are noted on hard copy.

• Please set up files in CMYK not RGB. Make sure you use pantone color libraries.

• If you are printing in black (or one color) only, make sure your photos are in grayscale and your artwork is in 100% black. Please do not use jpeg or gif for logos. Make sure photos/artwork are in the highest dpi available. The lower the resolution the lower the quality of the photo/artwork. When submitting logos for placement in document be sure they are at least 300 dpi for tiff or grayscale format and 600 or 1200 dpi for bitmap files. When sending Adobe Illustrator files, be sure to convert fonts to outlines.

• If you are printing in process color, make sure your photos are cmyk and your artwork is properly separated. We must have a pantone number for accurate color separations. Please determine the pantone color before you send. When submitting logos for placement in your document be sure they are at least 300 dpi for tiff or grayscale format and 600 or 1200 dpi for bitmap files.

• PDF files: Make sure pdf is created as Press Quality and has Crop Marks.

PLEASE NOTE: Submitting your electronic files in accordance with the above guidelines we should be able to take your files and go directly to plate. This is critical so that we can meet your delivery requirements. If we cannot open your file or it contains problems which have to be resolved, we will not be able to maintain your delivery schedule, especially in case of rush orders. In these instances you will be notified of the problem. At this point you will need to either supply us with a corrected file, or with your authorization, we will make corrections for you at our standard rate.

FOR ALL PUBLISHER FILES AN AUTOMATIC FEE WILL BE ADDED BEFORE OPENING ANY FILES.
